I know that most people are always quick to judge a book by
its cover as many would say. So I’m sad to say that I have been one of those
people to judge quickly especially in high school. I remember the first day of high school
orientation, I thought that one of the girls in my group was such a mean person
because of the way she acted toward everyone else. She was into meeting everyone else and did
not seem to care. The funny thing is
that after orientation, I found out that she knew one of my closest friend so I
ended up seeing her a lot. After hanging
out with her a couple times, I realized that she was not mean at all but
instead was really nice. She was just really
shy that day at orientation. Now, we are
still really close friends some could even say that we are like best friends.

Mission Critical and Causal Argument Website
I would say that both
the Mission Critical and Causal Argument Website are both very useful. I like
that they both help to summarize the main points that we have been learning in
the class so far. Also, I like that on
the Mission Critical website is organized and subdivides large sections into
the smaller sections within the big topic.
It makes it so much easier for me to be able to find the topics that I
did not fully understand. I also like
the explanations that the websites give.
The explanations are very easy to follow and help me to better
understand the topics. I also like that they use vivid example to better
explain the topic. Overall, I like the way that both websites use different
ways to explain each topic so that all types of learners can grasp the concepts
that we have been learning in this class.

My Horoscope
My horoscope for today:
Be careful that you do not go on a spending spree today. You
could lose track of your purchases and buy a lot more than you intended. You
are warm to those around you and you are appreciative of your own life and
self, in general. New ways to communicate or an easy manner will make
conversations go well; you are more talkative than usual. Higher education
and foreign travel may be your dream. If you are searching the papers for a
new job, look for a business in which you will need to travel to other countries.
A dialogue with an older person may take place this evening. Someone you meet
today may seem unrealistic and foggy-minded to you. Careful, this person may
find you lacking in sensitivity if you do not exert some patience.

After reading my horoscope for today, I would have to say
that it was pretty accurate. It was
pretty weird to see that it was basically describing my day and how I feel
today. Like for example when it said that I should be careful not to go on a
spending spree today. I realized that I have been spending a lot of money today
and lost track of the purchases I made especially since I went to target
today. Also, when it said that I am more
talkative than usual today. I realized that I was having a hard time
concentrating in the library while I was doing homework because I wanted to
talk to my friends. I would not say that any of the horoscope was falsifiable
because it talks about if I was searching for a new job but I was not today. Overall, I would have to say that my horoscope for today was pretty accurate.

Internet Plagiarism
In the article “The Wrongs of Internet Plagiarism: The Quick
Arguments” by Brook Sadler, she explains how plagiarism is such a negative
thing. She explains how it can affect the people in school like your professors
and classmates. Whereas, Russel Hunt the author of “ Four Reasons to Be Happy
about Internet Plagiarism,” talks about the benefits/good affects of
plagiarism. Hunter states that by having
plagiarism, it will bring awareness.
With awareness we will all be aware and when we are aware we can work
against the flaws and see the benefits. Though both authors bring up good
points and show a different side on plagiarism, I would have to say that I
agree with Hunt’s argument. When reading his argument, he is able to make more
sense with his argument and back it up with valid reasoning. He shows that
knowing what plagiarism is will help us students develop awareness of it.

Experience with the Media
The media is always somehow getting intertwined in our
lives. We are constantly surrounded by
the media every day. It can be from
watching our favorite television show to just surfing the internet. The media
has become such an influential part of everyone’s lives now. That is why I
believe that now a days, it is easier for people to be persuaded to change
their beliefs or stances on a certain topic. It seems that the media only exposes
certain information and sometimes they will even distort the truth. The media only publishes information that
they believe we as the audience would be interested in. That is the main reason
why it is hard to believe what the media puts out in our world. It is why over the years, I have experienced
numerous occasions where the media was biased and lead me to believe false
information. This just reminds you that you need critical thinking skills to be
able to recognize the truth.

Impact of the Internet on Daily Life
In the Boss text chapter 11, it talked a lot about the mass
media. But what really stood out to me
was the section that talked about the impact of the Internet on daily
lives. This part of the chapter really
opened up my eyes to be able to see how influential the Internet is on our
lives. It said that college freshman are
now spending more time surfing the web than studying. Since now people can shop, do their banking,
purchase concert or movie tickets, carry out research, play games, gamble,
download music, and even earn a college degree without leaving the comfort of
their homes. Having all of these options
and opportunities that the Internet provides can be a good and bad thing. It
helps to make numerous thing easy but because of the pervasive and growing
influence of the Internet on our lives and decisions, it is critical that we
learn to think critically about what we see, hear and post on the Internet.
